Instagram: Exploration not Imitation

There is a whole world around food living right on Insta. There are the gluttony pages, with post after post of the most decadent foods everyone can drool over. And then there are the healthy eating accounts—bloggers and wellness “experts” showing how they eat and what they eat as a means to influence what YOU eat. Crazy right! This is the world we live in.

Following along, you compare your life to others, what they are doing, what they are eating, and judge your own experience based on that comparison. It’s human nature. We can’t blame ourselves for it; it’s innate. What I wanted to share here is to thine own self be true. You do you.  Follow who you want to but make sure, as Marie Kondo says, that those you follow insight JOY. I don’t think you should ever follow anyone who makes you question your own choices, or feel less than. Nor should you ever compare yourself to someone else’s choices—in food, in health, and in life.

Explore, take it in, and then take it for what it is worth- someone posting their highlight reel for likes and reach. When it comes to eating, eat with intention and self-love. Remember, eat for YOUR body. Tune in to your OWN needs energetically. Just because one person eats 1/2 a piece of toast for breakfast doesn’t mean there’s something wrong with you because you crave much more than that (I have a very big appetite and own it). And on the flip side, just because someone is eating a lot more than you don’t say anything about YOU and how you should be eating. And remember; what you see is NOT reality. Just because someone is posting a peanut butter-laden granola bowl followed by a multi-course lunch does not mean they ate it all. Instagram is NOT real life. Tune in. Listen within. View with a lense of exploration not one of imitation.
