How to reset after overeating

So it’s just after the holidays, how do you get back to eating well and feeling better. Here are some tried and true quick tips to get you going.

Start the Day the Right Way

  1. Intermittent fast (12-16 hours is optimal). Starting with this alone can give your body the much-needed reset that it needs.
  2. Kick off your morning with hot water and lemon (ginger and a splash of apple cider vinegar can be added too) to soothe the digestive system and relieve any bloating from the day before.
  3. Gentle movement (think yoga stretches or a light walk) is a great way to begin a gut-healing protocol
  4. After a fast (I like to start eating around 12-1) make your first meal a low-sugar, high-fiber great smoothie. It is an ideal, nutrient-dense breakfast that can be packed full of gut-friendly ingredients that go easy on the digestive system. A morning blend of greens, fats, a handful of low-sugar fruit and a superfood or two (I love adding collagen or various Moon Juice adaptogens) will work wonders for your gut health.
  5. Focus on upping prebiotic and probiotic-rich foods throughout the day. Things like yogurt, kefir and fermented vegetables will complement prebiotic-rich foods such as blueberries, radishes, dandelion greens and artichokes.
  6. Increase water throughout the day to flush your system. Aim for 3 gallons.
  7. Lots of greens! Greens will fill you up with lots of fiber and help usher out all of the bad stuff.
  8. Lastly, try activated charcoal if you are feeling particularly sluggish or hangover. Activated charcoal can literally bind to toxins. I always feel amazing after having two teaspoons in water with lemon immediately after a large meal and then several times the next day. This brand makes a great one!
